We're a bit out of season with this tape of Christmas songs from the Korinnya Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, Korinnya. From the liner notes: Joy! The Korinnya Ukrainian Folk Ensemble Few things are more significant in Ukrainian culture than the Christmas season. From Christmas Eve to the Feast of Jordan, the season is filled with a myriad of colourful traditions. These range from the food on the table to the songs that ring through the air on those cold, crisp winter evenings. It's during these evenings that family and friends gather to sing carols to mark the holy season, as well as schedrivky to celebrate the coming new year. In the spirit of joy and celebration, Calgary's Korinnya Ukrainian Folk Ensemble has recorded this collection of traditional Ukrainian music. Since 1993, Korinnya has been performing its unique brand of choral music, which at Christmas includes carolling at the homes of our own friends and families. We truly enjoy the opportunity to bundle up, put on our toques, and go out in the cold to share the Joy of Christmas with you! Recorded at Scarborough United Church, Calgary, Alberta on November 17, 2001 and January 27, 2002. Recorded and Engineered by Frank Lockwood. Recording Assistance by Elena Scherbina-Baker. Produced by Cathy Lebedovich.
