Don Simmons is a Canadian multimedia artist who was - at some point in the early 2000's - based in Calgary, teaching at the Alberta College of Art and Design (now AUArts). This CD is a documentation of a piece he exhibited in 2004. From the liner notes: The audio is sourced from a radio broadcast of the NHL's Stanley Cup Playoff Final between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Calgary Flames in Game 7, June 6, 2004. Having a poor record during the season, the Flames were considered the underdog. With this recent rebirth of glory, the fans in the city of Calgary ignited with enthusiasm causing mob mentality to rule the streets. At the end of the game, the city transformed itself into Cohen-esque 'beautiful losers. On July 16, 2004, this audio was installed in a sports car, parked at the Epcor Center carpark, for the exhibition Bien Jouer curated by Groupe Visuel. A valet assisted groups of three into the backseat of the car for their comfortable listening of the audio piece. Remixed by Don Simmons using MAX/MSP software at EMMEDIA, Calgary, Alberta in June 2004. Special thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta College of Art & Design, Groupe Visuel, Ken Buera, Kyle Whitehead, Neal Thomas, Brian Batista, Peter Curtis Morgan and Gale Allen.
