This single from Lee and Sandy Paley is VERY CAREFUL not to use the words "Calgary Stampede," even though it's clearly linked to said event. We'd be happy with just the record, but the booklet that comes with this is an amazing piece of early 80's marketing schtick, with anthropomorphized corporate logos participating in various rodeo events. Of course, the song itself has a nod to this, with the middle eight featuring an announcer calling a chuckwagon race involving said corporations. What's also curious is that there were two editions of this record - one on the Heart label, and a second without. From the now-offline Heart Music Publishing Group website: Lee & Sandy (of 'Alberta' fame) wrote this song, a testimony to the Calgary Stampede and approached Heart Records, the most sensible label for its release. Because the label was situated in Calgary, and the stampede was (and still is) dubbed the greatest outdoor show on earth, the label obliged, even knowing airplay would be quite limited to the prairie region. Nonetheless, the label viewed For The World as a good publicity vehicle to promote the west, Calgary, and thus the label. A printing mistake was made during the manufacture; Side 2 was supposed to be a 'sing-along' version (before anyone even heard of karaoke here), whereas the Side 1 was supposed to be the singing version. The manufacturer had the labels reversed, but it has been corrected for this library.
