This single from Lethbridge's Darcy McNarland tells the infamous story of the Frank Slide, while the A side is a tune about homesickness and family. From the back cover: This record is dedicated to my Mother and Father, Suzanne and Murray McNarland. SIDE ONE FRANK SLIDE There's a story out West, where the mountains are at rest where a mining town used to be, there are buildings scattered round, huge boulders on the ground, as far as the eyes can see. Well the story's in the wind, of the Crows Nest Pass, It's the home of the Old Frank Slide, In 1903 Turtle Mountain came down, taking 70 peoples' lives. Chorus: If your travelling through the Crows Nest Pass, Be sure you don't drive right on by. There's history here, many lost their lives, In the mine below Old Frank Slide. Some oldtimers are around, they still here that sound, of the earth crashing in the night, well it through some out of bed, they looked out the sky was red, and they couldn't see a thing til daylight. Repeat Chorus Some say she'll come again, but they don't know when, I guess we' just have to wait and see. If that mother comes down, they'll here it all around. Another Frank Slide tragedy Repeat Chorus SIDE A FOREVER LASTING LOVE I was travelling down highway number one, heading out across this land, My Mom and Dad are waiting there, one of their boys will be home again. Chorus: Forever, together, We're riding out the stormy weather, Forever, together, Forever Lasting Love God only knows how I've missed my home, I've been away a long time, I miss the mosquitoes, the swamps, and the pines, it's a change from the land by the black coal mines. Repeat Chorus When we finally got there, our friends weren't anywhere. the town was in a bad way. there was talk going round, about shutting the mine down, I got that feeling but I can't stay.
