A Red Deer record! The rarest of the rare! For some reason, we have way more Lethbridge in the CCPS archive than anything from the city that used to be just a gas stop on the way to Edmonton for us. We totally dig the twisty musical staff art on the front of this - and the kids' outfits on the back cover. We also appreciate that it came out on Lethbridge's Big Chief Records. From the back cover: THE CHORUS Harmony 217 is a mixed chorus comprised of thirty-six students from Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School in Red Deer, Alberta. The chorus was formed in September of 1974 and is now in its second year. Harmony 217 is not a select group of auditioned singers; it is a composite of all the students registered in Music 10, Music 20, and Music 30 at L.T.C.H.S. Only two members of the chorus are Music 30 students; all the other members are grade ten and eleven students. One of the grade eleven students, Miss Cindy Konopaki, has been the able and dedicated pianist for the chorus since its formation in 1974. Harmony 217 has performed at many banquets and festivals in Red Deer. The Photograph which appears on this album was taken at the Kiwanis Music Festival after three "First" performances by the chorus. On February 19, 1976, Harmony 217 performed for 1400 Central Alberta school teachers at the General Assembly of the Red Deer Area Alberta Teachers' Association Convention. The repertoire performed on this recording is essentially a repetition of that performance of February 19, with the exception of the two Christmas Carols, which were originally performed by the chorus at the St. Mary's Christmas Carol Festival in December of 1975. THE DIRECTOR Mr. Ted Isenor is a native of the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. He was interested in music at an early age, earning an A.R.C.T. in Piano Performance and Theory while he was still a high school student. In 1973 Mr. Isenor graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Music. He was awarded the Alberta Teachers' Association Clarence Sansom Memorial Gold Medal as the most outstanding graduate in the Faculty of Education. After his graduation from the University of Calgary, Mr. Isenor came to Red Deer to teach music and English at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. Mr. Isenor is involved with many musical activities in the community, and has frequently performed as a pianist at local recitals. He is on the executive of the Red Deer Overture Concert Association and is currently the president of the Red Deer Branch of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers' Association.
