Yes, we know - the Frank Roberts Four weren't a Calgary band. They were from Seattle and cut this record while they were passing through Calgary in the early 1970's. They could play the standards all night. But that isn't a winning combination, either, so they put together the best of all worlds. Naturally, by the end of the night, rock prevails. Their kind of rock can be done quietly, too. It's the beat that counts-if it's in slow tempo or filled with soul. But the beat emits out of Matthew's organ, the drums, and Roberts comes along with the appropriate passages on saxophone to make it an enjoyable listening or dancing experience. P. BENTLEY
