As with the other single of Brian Bickerton's that we have in the CCPS collection, this one was billed as country - but those string arrangements and piano shout soft rock/pop to us. Bickerton and Heart doubled down with this one, putting the same track on both sides - we think it might have paid off, it's a pretty decent tune that makes us want to slow dance with that special someone (ie our record collection). Ah, we found the entry on the now-offline Heart Music Publishing Group website, which shows the trick of putting the same song on both sides didn't work: Red To Blue was Brian's second single release on Heart. The beds were produced at Calgary's Sound West Studios, overdubs and strings done in Vancouver's Total Sounds Studios where both producer Ron Mahonin and arranger Ted Alexander had worked from time to time (enjoying their Rupert Neve console). Brian had a hunch this song would fair well on Adult Contemporary stations, fighting strenuoulsy with the label to put the song on both sides. (At that time, it wasn't uncommon for programmers to decide to simply flip the record and play the 'B' side. With only one side to play, the thought was that they'd then play only one). Sadly, Brian's hunch wasn't right - the record got very little airplay; many programmers calling the song a 'downer' (albeit a 'deep-lyrics' song).
