We've been fascinated with this record for several reasons, none of which have to do with the actual music. First, that cover photo! Then, that record title! And the write-up on the back! For many years, on a variety of occasions, Jim and Jake have sung in The City of Calgary and throughout Alberta. They were born in Cardston, Alberta, and have spent most of their years in the province. They grew up in a "singing home", where their father sang both solo and in choruses. When Jim started to take singing lessons with Mr. Bullough, Jake would go with him. He offered so much. advice that the teacher challenged him to sing. This was the beginning of Jim and Jake's duo singing. They spent two years in South Africa on a mission for their church, and while there they sang many times. On one occasion, while accompanying a tour up Table Mountain, they joined two other young singers, and sang all the way up the mountain and down again. This earned them their fare, an episode which they repeated again later. Jake and Jim now operate a barbershop in Calgary, and very often entertain their customers in song. So sit down and relax to the sound of "The Stereo Twins." There's a lot to unpack in that, with the twins hailing from Cardston and being singing barbers (we're dying to know which barbershop they worked in). They croon their way through this LP, which the Herald's Bill Musselwhite noted in this article. Now we have Relax With The Stereo Twins (Westmount Records 6970 S). The twins (actual twins, too) are two Calgary barbers named Jim and Jake Whitehead. Their customers will be interested in this LP since, I'm told, they have a habit of entertaining while they're snipping. I don't know if SPEBSQSA has heard of them, but if they haven't they'd better get busy and sign them up. After all, there's lots of barbershop singing around but darn few singing barbers.
