Before we start gushing about this tape, a bit of disclosure - Garland Briggs includes two of the people who were involved with making a documentary on the CCPS in 2024, namely singer Maya Calvez and guitarist Nick Alford. We like to think that we're above any sort of conflict of interest, and that our love of this band is based on their killer live show and their excellent sound - a blend of emo and hardcore that our earbones find super tasty. It's that emo in the mix that takes them just a bit to the left of screamo and makes them shine. Sure, Calvez's vocals are screamy, but more in an angsty and, well, emo sort of way. We're not sure what it is in the water right now, but several of our favourite band frontpersons are women - and Calvez is near the top of the list.
