We're pulling just the two Calgary tracks from this compilation from one of the CBC's great forays into documenting our country's music scene. ZeD ran on the CBC from 2002 to 2005, and History of Canadian Broadcasting has the full scoop: Online and late night: they were the two aspects of the entity that was ZeD. In its late-night incarnation, host Sharon Lewis “probed light and original live music, dance and spoken word performances by groundbreaking artists; frontline indie-culture reportage by a crew of cross-Canada video correspondents; intimate chats with culture creators who were making a stir; and innovative short film, video, animation, music, spoken-word,and visual art pieces from around the world.” Airing nightly from Vancouver at 11:35pm, the program debuted in March of 2002. It was a program designed to involve the viewer and on-line participants in a creative and unique way. The series, which was reduced to three nights per week in 2005, was cancelled in 2006. The Kris Demeanor track on here is excellent (it sounds like he's backed by his Crack Band). We're sad to see Tegan and Sara tagged as Vancouver artists, though.
